NPR’s “100 Must Reads” Kids 9-14

NPR just hours ago published their annual book list, with the focus this year being kids ages 9-14.  Do you agree with the choices?  I, for one, was glad to see some of my personal favorites on there, such as Sherman Alexie’s Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian, the subject of much debate at many schools.  I loved it (see my reading response), along with Little Women, the Anne of Green Gables series, Because of Winn-Dixie, Charlotte’s Web, the Narnia series, Are You There God?  It’s Me, Margaret, The Secret Garden, American Born Chinese, When You Reach Me, The Little Prince, and The Giver.  I wish I’d seen more informational/non-fiction titles, as well as more graphic novels, but as it stands, I’ve already added many items to my ever growing to-read list.  Shaun Tan’s The Arrival looks particularly intriguing and definitely one I’ll pick up this weekend…perhaps with a new bookshelf.  😉
